Teacher Housing Fosters Sustainable Capacity Building in Rural Schools

UPDATE as of April 21, 2021: All six housing units have been underwritten at Sarawe Primary School thanks to five donors! There are two more schools that need 9 more units of teacher housing. With this great response, we are now able to set our sights on funding at least three more of the remaining nine housing units by next Friday, April 30.

This month, the first 6-in-1 Teacher Housing Block at Kambarage Primary School will be completed. But we have two more to build. That is why the 2021 Community Vision Campaign is prioritizing the construction of a 6-in-1 Teacher Housing Block at Sarawe Primary School which will provide on-site residence for six teachers and their families. This is one of three such complexes being built at our Model Schools.

Teacher Housing Needs & Impact:

  • Housing was identified as a top priority by the schools to attract and retain quality teachers.
  • Proximity to school increases time for instruction, lesson planning, and student support.
  • Quality teacher housing alleviates the hardship of working in a rural community.
  • Teacher housing is a key component of our holistic approach to school improvement.

The campaign goal is $60,000 for the 6-in-1 Teacher Housing Block at Sarawe Primary School - with each residence costing $10,000 to build. Three donors have already pledged $30,000 to kick off the financial campaign and the community will invest nearly 30,000 volunteer hours to bring this project to fruition. The 6-in-1 Teacher Housing Block will ensure that teachers and their families have suitable living spaces complete with kitchens, bathrooms, private family quarters, and access to reliable water.

Additional naming opportunities are still available. For more information email donate@projectzawadi.org or call 866-589-6116.

Please act soon. This campaign ends April 30, with pledges due by May 31, 2021.
