$300 towards $20,000

As many of you know, I have spent much of my free time and energy over the last 4 years volunteering with Project Zawadi, a nonprofit organization that works in Tanzania to improve education in a very rural and poor region of the country near the Serengeti National Park and Lake Victoria. I am fortunate to work with a talented and committed group of people from the U.S., U.K. and Tanzania. I travel regularly to the country and work on a weekly basis with our team in Tanzania. In the last couple of years, the work has really taken off and we have significantly expanded the depth and scope of our work.

We are partnering with five school communities serving 3000 students over the next five years to create fully resourced model schools with highly trained teachers, quality facilities, learning materials and after school enrichment programs.

We are working with 600 schools serving 24,000 students over the next three years to provide comprehensive, electronic, in-service teacher training, professional development and evaluation with the aim of providing a model program for the rest of the country.

We are coordinating an alliance of leaders from NGOs, universities, the national teachers union and the Tanzania government to promote strategies and policies to improve teacher professional development and accountability in the country.

We are providing intensive English instruction for 200 primary school students to prepare them for secondary school where English is the language of instruction and assessment.

I am excited about the prospects for making a real difference in the lives of students and teachers in Tanzania. We have established ourselves as an effective NGO in the Mara region and as a leader in the country advocating for teacher professional development. We are increasing our staffing in the country, resource and technology investments and teacher training materials. Your support can help us meet the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

I urge you to check out our website for more information and consider making a donation to Project Zawadi. If you donate between now and Nov. 20th, your donation will be matched up to 35%. If you have any questions, just give me a call at 651.605.1068. I would love to talk with you about the work.

Thanks!

Ian
