"If real development is to take place, the people have to be involved." - Julius Nyerere

Project Zawadi is made up of a diverse community of students, teachers, community leaders, government partners, foundations, and individual donors like you who understand that when we work together towards common goals, we succeed. The changes we support will only be permanent and sustainable if the community embraces new ideas and changes from within. Here is an example:

Born and raised in Nyamuswa, Theresia Amos excelled in school with support from her family, community, and Project Zawadi. She completed her undergraduate degree and returned to Nyamuswa as an intern for Project Zawadi. Now she leads a new initiative as the Girls Safety Coordinator, building an impactful program to reduce all forms of gender-based violence. The changes being made, as a result of this new initiative, are only able to to take root because it comes from within. Theresia has become a changemaker and a role model for the community, from the community.

Please donate today and be a changemaker with Theresia and other leaders in the community. Project Zawadi needs to raise at least $250,000 by December 31, 2024 to support this year’s priorities including:

  • Provide tuition support to a dramatically increased number of students moving on to university.
  • Support community leaders to improve systems for handling cases of child abuse.
  • At the central government’s request, create several new Tenda Teachers training videos that will be placed on the national Learning Management System.
  • Expand the Model Schools program into 5 (or more) new schools.
  • Support the continued expansion of Model Farms such that students will be eating every school day at the four current Model Schools.

Note: $240/year (or $20/month for recurring donors) supports one (1) student in our Student Support program for a year. As students advance through their education into the secondary, tertiary or vocational levels, Project Zawadi ensures that the resources needed to attend school are properly met.
